Lingxi L

2026-09-29 19:10:00

The Lingxi L is the debut mass-production model under Dongfeng Honda's all-new sub-brand, "Lingxi", officially launched on 26 September 2024. Developed exclusively for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, this all-electric D-segment sedan boasts key selling points such as a class-exclusive "five-screen" cockpit layout, digital side mirrors, and an entry price starting from RM129,800.

Model Overview

Unveiled in September 2023, Lingxi is Dongfeng Honda's second new-energy brand following the e:NS EV sub-brand, sporting a brand-new logo and aimed squarely at China's younger demographics. As the brand's maiden offering, the Lingxi L is underpinned by the new Lingxi Smart Electric Platform and is positioned as an all-electric D-segment sedan. The 2024 model was offered in a sole variant, priced officially at RM129,800. In October 2025, Dongfeng Honda introduced the 2025 Lingxi L, adding two variants: "Top Player Edition + Super Double Option Pack" and "Top Player Edition + Extra Feature Option Pack", priced at RM149,800 and RM155,800, respectively. Its primary rivals include the BYD Qin PLUS EV, Volkswagen ID.7 VIZZION, and similar models.

Design Language

The Lingxi L features a "polyhedron" design philosophy that heavily utilises sharp triangular elements, giving it an angular and visually striking silhouette. Up front, it sports a closed-off fascia dubbed the "Triple Spread Wing Front Face", complemented by horizontal L-shaped headlight signatures and triangular welcome lights neatly integrated into the front bumper vents, ensuring high road presence. A two-tone exterior finish paired with a rising wedge-shaped beltline gives the sedan a purposeful, forward-leaning stance.

Dimensionally, the sedan measures 4,830 mm long, 1,845 mm wide, and 1,503 mm tall, with a 2,731 mm wheelbase, placing it squarely in the D-segment. Aerodynamic efficiency is commendable, registering a drag coefficient of just 0.243 Cd. The rear continues the geometric theme with sharp triangular accents, a full-width light bar, an integrated ducktail boot spoiler, and a rear bumper diffuser element.

Inside, the standout feature of the Lingxi L is its full-width five-screen cockpit—comprising a digital instrument cluster, a central infotainment screen, a front passenger entertainment display (all measuring 12.3 inches), flanked by dedicated 7-inch displays for the digital side mirrors on either side. The cabin runs on the Lingxi SPACE smart infotainment system with integrated Tencent TAI services, preloaded with 13 connected apps, over 20 mini-programs, and the "Xiao Xi" smart voice assistant.

Powertrain and Performance

The Lingxi L is powered by a front-mounted single permanent magnet synchronous motor (model code TZ200XSBT1), manufactured by Zhixin Technology Co., Ltd.. The motor outputs a maximum of 160 kW (around 218 PS) and 310 Nm of peak torque, delivering a 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.9 seconds, 0-50 km/h in 3.4 seconds, and a top speed of 160 km/h.

Energy is supplied by a 59.22 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack sourced from BYD FinDreams, fitted with a liquid-cooling thermal management system. Under the CLTC cycle, it delivers a pure-electric range of up to 520 km, with an energy consumption rated as low as 12.9 kWh/100 km. Official charging durations for standard AC and DC fast charging have yet to be disclosed.

Chassis and Handling

Under the skin, the Lingxi L rides on a front-wheel-drive platform with MacPherson struts up front and a rear torsion beam setup. Steering duties are handled by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system, while stopping power comes from ventilated front discs and solid rear discs, paired with an Electric Parking Brake (EPB). For rolling stock, the 2024 model rides on 215/55 R17 tyres as standard, while the 2025 optional packs upgrade to 235/45 R18 low-noise tyres. Drivers can toggle between three selectable drive modes: Standard/Comfort, Eco, and Sport.

Cabin and Equipment

At the heart of the Lingxi L's cabin is the continuous five-screen setup, where the triple 12.3-inch displays support seamless cross-screen content sharing. The Lingxi SPACE infotainment unit supports Huawei HiCar smartphone mirroring, 5G connectivity, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. The "Xiao Xi" voice assistant provides hands-free control over media, navigation, phone calls, climate control, and power windows.

On the creature comforts front, it comes standard with leatherette upholstery, automatic air conditioning, and a 4-speaker audio system (upgradable to 6 speakers via option packs). The 2025 option packs introduce 128-colour smart ambient lighting, heated front seats, and a 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. The digital side mirrors are a hallmark feature, cutting blind spots by 80% while automatically adjusting the viewing angle based on vehicle speed and steering input.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The Lingxi L is equipped with the Lingxi DRIVE intelligent driving suite. Its hardware suite comprises 1 millimetre-wave radar, 1 monocular camera, 4 surround-view cameras, and 12 ultrasonic parking sensors—amounting to 18 ADAS sensing units. This enables Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities, supporting full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), a 540-degree panoramic camera with transparent chassis view, and multi-scenario automated parking assist.

Passive safety features include dual front airbags, front side airbags, and full-length curtain airbags across the range, alongside a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) display. The 2025 option pack further adds a Driver Monitoring System (DMS) and Face ID recognition.

Market Performance and Verdict

At launch, the Lingxi L disrupted the D-segment EV market with its aggressive RM129,800 price tag, earning praise from motoring media for being "substantially more affordable than rival joint-venture electric saloons". However, the 2025 model's starting price was bumped up to RM149,800—a notable RM20,000 hike that sparked market debate. Nonetheless, substantial dealer discounts have surfaced at showroom level, with some 2025 units tagged as low as RM79,800.

From a product standpoint, the Lingxi L's main selling points are its futuristic five-screen cabin, digital side mirrors, and competitive positioning in the RM120,000 to RM150,000 bracket. Compared to joint-venture rivals like the Volkswagen ID.7 VIZZION (priced from circa RM200,000) and Toyota bZ3, it offers superior value for money. That said, its rear torsion beam suspension and 520 km range are merely on par with class standards rather than segment-leading, and the fledgling brand still needs time to build customer trust.

The launch of the Lingxi L underscores Dongfeng Honda's aggressive push into electrification, with plans to introduce over 10 all-electric models by 2030. For car buyers prioritising tech appeal, value for money, and joint-venture manufacturing credibility, the Lingxi L presents an intriguing choice in the RM150,000-class all-electric mid-size sedan market.
